HMD has just started communication on the schedule of the update of its smartphones to Android 8.0 Oreo. Good news, even the entry level will get right quickly.
HMD knows it has yet to prove itself. Since the launch of the manufacturer with the Nokia brand, it makes the promise of a serious follow-up of the updates.
Android 8.0 Oreo is available since August, it is now necessary that the brand concretizes and offers its customers the famous update.
The Sino-Finnish manufacturer had already announced that all its smartphones, Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8, would have the right to Android 8.0 Oreo. Asked about the issue, the HMD official for Australia and New Zealand gave some details on his schedule of updates.
An update of the range before the end of the year
Good news, one of the managers of HMD promised that the update would arrive before the end of 2017. If this deadline is not surprising regarding the Nokia 8, the flagship of the company is more surprising for other products like the Nokia 5 and the Nokia 6 sold much cheaper.
Devices at this price level are usually updated many months after the flagships. For example, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) waited August 2017 to receive an update to Android 7.0 Nougat.
One wonders however if HMD will manage to keep its promise concerning the Nokia 3 which has the particularity of being equipped with a chip MediaTek MT6737; unfortunately, the chip maker is known to be slow to offer drivers suitable for new versions of Android.
At the time of this writing, HMD still has about three months left to launch the deployment of the Oreo update. For the manufacturer, it is a race that it must not lose in front of other brands using heavier interfaces.
